Douglas Linville II, MD is an Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon with nearly 22 years of clinical experience. After an Orthopaedic Surgery residency at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, he completed one of the nation’s top spine fellowship programs at Washington University in St. Louis, and is a board certified diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
Subsequent to training, Dr. Linville has been in academic and private practice since 1997. During this time he has taught residents, fellows, and provided training for practicing physicians learning new procedures including: kyphoplasty, and minimally invasive spine surgery techniques. He has continued his research interests and has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and textbook chapters during this time, most recently in Neurosurgery in March 2018. Additionally, Dr. Linville has provided consulting services to medical device manufacturers, and contributed to the development of a minimally invasive spinal implant system that is used and sold nationally. He has fully engaged himself in his time in practice by teaching, researching, publishing, and providing new ideas for product development.
Barbour Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine is excited to provide excellent cutting-edge spine care including surgical and nonsurgical treatments. Dr. Linville provides treatment of all regions of the spine: cervical, lumbar, sacral, and sacroiliac. New technology has always been a passion, and he has been trained in endoscopic spine surgery, robotic spine surgery, and image guided procedures. He offers treatment of conditions from simple to complex, including: minimally invasive surgery for lumbar and cervical disc herniations, minimally invasive lumbar fusions, cervical disk replacements and fusions, sacroiliac fusions, spinal deformity, fractures, and failed surgeries. Even extensive surgical problems, in some cases, are treated with minimally invasive techniques. Injection treatments using stem cell preparations are also being offered as an option to more invasive surgical procedures. His treatment options are extensive and the patient and their preferences and concerns drive the decision for treatment.
Compassionate, patient-centered care, is the goal of Dr. Linville, and he thrives on this interaction. His patients are offered options to avoid surgery, when possible, in favor of less-invasive or non-surgical treatments. He is committed to his patients and to the pursuit of minimally invasive treatments to allow quicker recovery and return to function.
